My first thought was the sister-Princesses whose slippers wore out every night from Somno-dancing.
Back in my early years, the Memphis Commercial Appeal used to have an ad for a club called THE CRUEL SHOE, right on the page with the Silver Slipper and Justine's. I ALWAYS wondered the reason for such an odd name.
Wish I could REPLY on the article---it was splendid. I thought of a Kelle Hampton quote: "Red is Ordinary's Kryptonite."
I live near Memphis so I know exactly what you are talking of. Laughing. You're right, it was a "splendid" piece on shoes. P.S. The other day I saw a woman in six inch heels, very pointed toes" in the check out line at a store. I was amazed and horrified at the same time. LOL!
